Je te Veux!

About the event

Je te veux” – “I want you” in French – is the title of a beloved song from the early 1900s, written by Erik Satie with seductive lyrics by Henry Pacory. As the title suggests, the text portrays a burning desire for another person.

The longing to have someone is a deeply human need. We are created to be with others, and the desire to keep people close is therefore fundamentally rooted in us. Wanting someone can mean many things: it can be an expression of the need for safety and connection, for love and passion, but also for more unhealthy impulses, such as control, manipulation, and possession. In this concert, we explore how the desire to have someone has been expressed in music and opera, through carefully selected songs and characters from the world of opera.
