About the venue
Step into a remarkable piece of local history in The Office, Hilmar Reksten’s former workspace and one of Bergen’s true hidden treasures. Located within his historic private residence at Rasmussen Samlingene, this beautifully preserved room now serves as an intimate museum, offering a rare glimpse into the world of the legendary shipping magnate and art collector.
The room retains its original style and atmosphere, where business decisions once shaped global shipping routes and priceless artworks lined the walls. Elegant furniture, striking art, a grand piano and an exceptional library of art and business books give the space a quiet grandeur that captivates today’s visitors.
You’ll find The Office on the ground floor, just by the main entrance. Rasmussen Samlingene was originally built as an extension of Reksten’s 1935 villa, the stately grey house to the right, together with the adjoining office building to the south. These spaces were created to house and display his extraordinary art collection, including paintings, sculptures, antique carpets and silver – many pieces now preserved by today’s owners.
Just outside, in the surrounding park, a small stone path leads to a peaceful memorial where Reksten’s urn rests in the rock wall. It is a place to pause, reflect and connect more deeply with the story behind this unique setting.
Whether you come for history, art or atmosphere, The Office is a must-see when visiting Bergen.
